Notifications
The bell icon in the top bar keeps you informed about things that happen while you work — agent runs that finish in the background, runs that fail, runs waiting for your confirmation, and items shared with you.
What you'll be notified about
- Agent executions — when a long-running agent finishes, fails, or pauses waiting for you to confirm an action. Short runs (under a few seconds) that finish while you're watching don't generate a notification.
- Sharing — when someone shares an agent or an app with you.
- Agents — messages an agent sends you on its own, for example when work it was doing in the background is finished or when it needs a decision from you.
- System messages — occasional platform updates, including a monthly "What's new" digest on the 1st of each month that links to that month's release notes (only sent when there are new release notes to announce).
Reading and managing notifications
Click the bell to see your latest notifications. From there you can:
- Click any item to open it (jumps you to the related conversation, agent, or app).
- Mark items as read individually or all at once.
- Dismiss items you no longer want to see.
- Open the full Notifications page for filtering by category and reviewing older items.
Pop-up toasts
When you're using the app, new notifications also appear briefly as a pop-up in the corner. You can turn these off in the Notifications page if you prefer the quieter bell-only experience.
Device notifications
Turn on Device notifications on this device in the Notifications page to get alerts from your phone or computer even when Operator is closed. Tapping an alert opens the related conversation, agent or app.
When you install Operator as an app on your phone or computer, you're asked once whether to turn on device notifications — tap Turn on and you're set. If your browser already allows notifications, they turn on by themselves the first time you open the installed app.
A few things worth knowing:
- The setting applies to the device you're on. Turn it on separately on your laptop and your phone.
- On iPhone and iPad, add Operator to your Home Screen first — Apple only allows alerts for apps installed that way.
- If your browser has blocked notifications for Operator, unblock them in the browser's site settings and switch it on again.
- Muted categories stay muted: if you mute Executions, no device alerts arrive for agent runs either.
Notifications from agents
An agent you created can notify you whenever it has something worth your attention. That always works — you own it.
An agent someone else created has to ask first:
- The first time it tries to reach you, you get a single permission request that shows the message it wants to send, together with the agent's name and who runs it.
- Choose Allow and the message is delivered straight away, and that agent can notify you from then on. Choose Block and the message is discarded and the agent can never notify you again.
- If you leave the request unanswered and the agent tries again, you don't get a second request — the waiting request is updated with the newest message and moves back to the top of your list. Unanswered requests disappear after 30 days.
- Any agent may send you at most 20 notifications per day.
You can change your mind at any time under Agents that can notify you on the Notifications page.
Example: a colleague's stock-watch agent finds that a product fell below its minimum level. You get one request — "Stock Watch, run by Maria Petrova, wants to send you notifications" — showing the alert itself. Allowing it delivers the alert and lets future alerts through; blocking it ends the matter.
Muting categories
If a category gets noisy, mute it from the Notifications page. Muted categories stop creating new notifications until you un-mute them.
Retention
Notifications are kept automatically for a limited time: read items for 30 days, dismissed items for 7 days, and anything older than 90 days is removed.
